MK Dons lose out to Vitesse for Chelsea starlet

Reports have suggested that Chelsea’s young midfielder Lewis Baker will be sent on loan to Dutch outfit Vitesse, meaning the Milton Keynes Dons have lost out on the chance to bring the player back to MK1 next season.

Baker, 20, spent part of last season with the Dons, where he helped them to automatic promotion to the second tier of English football for the first time in their brief history.

He played in 17 League One matches last season and managed to get on the scoresheet on three occasions.

He excelled in the centre of midfield, working along players such as Darren Potter and Dele Alli, and it was believed that the Dons would be able to bring him back on loan for their inaugural season in The Championship.

This will no longer be the case as Chelsea opted to send their talented England under 20 international player to Vitesse Arnhem, who finished 5th in the Dutch Eredivisie last season.

Chelsea rate Baker highly and want him to progress as quickly as possible, viewing the Dutch top tier as the better option for the young Englishman.

The Dons are understandably disappointed and will continue their search for Dele Alli’s replacement next season, likely to be another youth player on loan from a big Premier League club.
