Defender returns to Home Park

Plymouth Argyle have made their first signing of the summer by bringing in former defender Gary Sawyer.

Sawyer came up through the youth ranks at Home Park and made 96 appearances in 4 seasons for The Pilgrims, and joins on a free transfer following his release from Leyton Orient last month. The 29 year old becomes Derek McAdams’ first signing as Plymouth manager, and the defender seemed delighted to return to the South West.

He told the club’s official website, “Since I left, this has always been a place I wanted to come back to,” he said. “I’ve been thinking about it quite a bit and I’ve really enjoyed my time in London but I wanted to come back and I’m lucky enough that it fell right for me.

The league’s changed but – the look of it, the people at the club – nothing else has really changed. I’m absolutely delighted to be back.”
