Argyle look favourites to secure Akpa Akpro’s signature

Exactly two months ago today, Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro was the only man on the score-sheet in a game that saw Shrewsbury return to League One. Fast-forward two months and the French striker is out of contract and looking for a new club after one season at the Greenhous Meadow. Jean-Louis had a solid season in Shropshire, scoring nine goals and starting twenty-seven times and coming off the bench eighteen times. Akpa Akpro struggled to secure a first team spot at the start of the season due to Collins and Mangan’s strong partnership, the arrival of Tyrone Barnett in January also did not help the Toulousain. Town boss Micky Mellon has the local newspaper that he is hunting a new forward, this statement has made it look even more unlikely that Akpa Akpro will be offered a contract extension.

Akpa-Akpro will be a useful addition for the Pilgrims, Jean-Louis is an experienced Football League player and can add magic and power to their attack. He was mainly used as an impact substitution at Town, but at Argyle he might find that he gets more game-time. It will be a shame to see Akpa Akpro depart the Meadow, fans appreciated his unique character and his playing style. If this transaction does take place, the best of luck to Jean-Louis at his new club and hopefully he can help Argyle fight their way into League One.
