McGurk Signs On As Pompey Move For Barton

Adam McGurk has today signed a two-year deal with promotion hopefuls Portsmouth with Adam Barton also rumoured to have agreed terms, according to the Portsmouth News.

McGurk made 41 appearances during Burton’s march to the League Two title last season but opted to move south after his contract ran out. McGurk is the latest of new manager Paul Cook’s signings as he plots a return to to English football’s third tier. McGurk told the official website:

“What attracted me was the size of the club and the large crowds that come to watch the games. I’ve played against Pompey a few times and I’ve always been struck by how fantastic the fans have been, despite a difficult few years.”

Cook has also approached Adam Barton as he looks to shore up his midfield options. Former Coventry midfielder Barton was released by the Sky Blues but is viewed as a solid player by most City fans. He echoed McGurk’s views while speaking to the official website saying:

The fans were another big reason why I wanted to join the club. Coming to a place like this gives you such a boost. Promotion has to be the aim and we’ll class the season as a failure if we don’t achieve that.”

The 24-year-old has agreed a two-year deal to become the sixth signing this summer with Christian Burgess set to complete his move tomorrow.
