Serie A new-boys eyeing up Cardiff’s ex-Manchester United striker

According to Wales Online, newly-promoted Italian outfit Frosinone are interested in a deal to bring Cardiff’s Federico Macheda to Italy knowing that Bluebirds boss Russell Slade has to cull his striking options this summer.

Cardiff currently have a squad which needs to be trimmed by five or so players with many players returning from season-long loans and Frosinone are hoping Macheda will be one of those striking departing Wales.

Last season the 23 year-old managed to net eight goals in 25 games in all competitions after being signed by his former reserve team manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on a free transfer.

Highly rated as a youngster, the striker was snapped up by Manchester United from Lazio as a 16 year-old and spent seven years at Old Trafford, although a lot of his time with the Red Devils was spent out on loan.

Spending time in Italy with Sampdoria, and in Germany with VfB Stuttgart, Macheda consistently struggled to find any sort of goal scoring form; scoring just 18 goals in 109 appearances for various clubs.

An impressive loan spell during the 2013-14 season with Birmingham City, where he scored ten goals in 18 games, is what led to the Bluebirds swooping for his signature.
