Yesterday The72 brought you news that the Capital One Cup first round draw pitted son against father; well Accrington Stanley and their midfielder Josh Windass against Hull City and their ambassador Dean Windass. Windass junior was looking forward to putting one over on the old man when the two sides meet in what would no doubt be seen as bragging rights in the Windass family.
Today Windass senior and Hull City legend Dean, ex-Tigers striker replied and it seems that he sees the resonance that such a match up will create. In the opening segment of the interview (below) Dean Windass says that the fact that there will be a connection between Hull City/himself and Accrington Stanley/his son and that this ‘connection’ has “made it more tasty.” The senior Windass said that he called his son straight away and mentioned the draw and goes on to say that he wishes his son all the best for the game and hopes he gets some good exposure from the match-up.
With Hull having been relegated at the end of last season, it will be something of a culture change moving from appearing at grounds like Manchester United’s Old Trafford and Accrington Stanley’s Crown Ground on Livingston Road. However, culture shock or not, Hull City will not be able to take anything for granted against their League Two opponents.
