Grandison set to leave Town

In the past few days rumours have linked Jermaine Grandison with a move to Birmingham City, Grandison is out of contract at Shrewsbury Town and the club have a limited wage bill. Grandison’s time at Town has been interesting, two years ago Grandison rejected a new contract so he could recover from a hip injury. Grandison was then brought back into the side after he has made a full recovery.

For the Blues fans that are intrigued by how Grandison plays, here is an analysis from a person that has watched him all season. Grandison’s physique and strength make him impossible to beat on the floor and in the air, he is also very attack minded and enjoys to take on defenders with his interesting skill moves. Grandison’s skills up field can be enjoyable for fans and can sometimes resulting in goals but at times he does leave the defence exposed. Rowett will have to control Grandison, he might be able to take on League Two defenders put I doubt the likes of Berra will be troubled by his step-overs. The appointment is surprising but Rowett wants to refresh his squad, Grandison’s future is unpredictable but if Rowett’s plays his cards right, he might be able to utilise Grandison’s terrific defensive capabilities. Jermaine has played at centre-half for the majority of last season, Mellon moved him from his native right-back position and it has resulted in Town’s defence being one of the most successful in the country.

Grandison was born and bred in Birmingham, and has resided there even when playing for Shrewsbury. The move will suit him no doubt and he could easily become a fan favourite at St. Andrews. If Rowett signs Grandison, he will have himself a rough diamond and his has to work with him to develop his game so he can compete in the Championship.
