Wilder ‘not surprised’ by Toney speculation.

2 weeks ago, rumours emerged of Northampton’s Ivan Toney going to the Championship. The 19 year old was planning to move to Wolves in January, as they received an offer from the club in November, but fellow team mate, Marc Richards, advised him to stay until the end of the season. Richards said in an interview, “I can certainly see the temptation for Ivan to go to a club like Wolves but, from my own past experience, I would advise Ivan to stick it out here.” Although, it wasn’t Marc Richards who got Ivan to stay. Wolves pulled the plug as there was something wrong with Toney’s medical, however, the youngster managed to play for the Cobblers the rest of the season without picking up an injury.

The rumours have now become a bit more scary for the Northampton fans as Cobblers boss, Chris Wilder, has said that he is ‘not surprised’ with the rumours and has also stated: “If I was a Championship or Premier League club after a young player, and they are doing their homework and doing their recruitment well, then they should be looking at Ivan, and I would not be surprised if they are.”

Northampton’s local paper, Northampton Chronicle & Echo, said that there were several scouts monitoring the young forward throughout the season, however, when they interviewed Wilder, he said: “I spoke with the chairman, and we haven’t had any approach.”

Ivan Toney is reportedly worth £500,000.
