MK Dons keen on prolific ex-Leeds striker

MK Dons are looking to make free agent Luciano Becchio their first signing of the summer following his release from newly-promoted Norwich City, according to reports.

The 31 year-old was one of six players to be released by the Canaries and will be on the hunt for new club this post-season, and Dons boss Karl Robinson is hoping to persuade the former Leeds striker to join his squad in the clubs first season in the Championship.

Argentinian Becchio started his career at Mallorca, but struggled to find his feet and moved to Terrassa and then Barcelona B before finding impressive scoring form with Merida in 2007.

28 goals in 50 appearances for the now-defunct Merida led to a move to Leeds United where the striker flourished. Five seasons scoring ten or more goals left Becchio with a record of 86 goals in 221 appearances for the Whites.

His goal scoring exploits put him 10th in Leeds’ All-Time Goalscorer list in league games. However, his time at Elland Road came to an abrupt end after contract talks broke down and Becchio handed in a transfer request.

Being acquired by Norwich in the January transfer window of 2013, Becchio never recaptured his scoring form and struggled to hold down a first team place with the Canaries – leading to his release.
