Newport make 3 signings

Newport County AFC have announced their first signings of the summer transfer window, Terry Butcher has added Rhys Thomas, Scott Barrow and Lenell John-Lewis all on a free transfer. The signings have pleased supporters who have recently seen 15 players leave the club earlier this month.

After scoring an impressive 18 goals in the Conference for Grimsby Town Lenell John-Lewis was a force in the Mariners’ promotion chase last season, with a highlight being scoring a goal in the play-off final against Bristol Rovers. A determined striker with an eye for goal brings a lot of excitement to Rodney Parade.

Rhys Thomas is an experienced Welsh goalkeeper snapped up from Macclesfield Town; Butcher said in an interview that he wants Thomas to challenge Joe Day for a first team place between the posts. Scott Barrow also joined County from Macclesfield, the 26 year-old defender enjoyed a successful season for the Silkmen where he played in most of Town’s league games.

With a long summer of signings awaiting the Exiles this news hasn’t come soon enough for County supporters and expect Butcher to add more additions to his squad over the coming weeks. This afternoon County also announced a pre-season friendly against recently relegated Queens Park Rangers, the game which takes place on the 22nd July is exciting news for both sets of supporters.
