Cardiff eye move for Swindon defender

Cardiff City are considering a move for Swindon defender Nathan Byrne, according to Wales Online.

Russell Slade has been keeping an eye on the 22-year old during the 2014/15 season and he has been impressed with what he has seen. So much so that he is now preparing to make a move.

Swindon came close to promotion recently, only to miss out in the play-off final. Now, several of their players could be off for teams in higher leagues – Gladwin and Luongo have already made the move to QPR and Byrne could be next.

The Robins have recently activated a clause in the youngster’s contract to keep him at the club for an additional year, but it is believed that bids of around £500,000 could still see the Englishman leave the County Ground.

Byrne can play as a full-back, wing-back or winger and that versatility would massively help the Bluebirds, who are looking to recruit a number of players this summer to help them improve on their 11th place finish next season.

He has been in good form for Swindon – managing to get himself in the League 1 Team of the Year – and his performances have not only impressed Cardiff but several other teams as well, including Huddersfield. With all this interest, it may mean that his time at the Robins could soon be up.

However, Swindon staff and fans will certainly be hoping they can keep hold of the 22-year old for at least another campaign.
