Watford on the verge of signing Blackburn’s star striker

According to the Daily Mail, newly-promoted Watford are on the brink of signing Rudy Gestede from Blackburn in a deal rumoured to be worth about £5 million.

Netting 20 goals in the league last season for the Rovers, as well as contributing six assists, Gestede finished as the clubs top scorer and ended up as joint-fourth in the Championship scoring charts.

The Benin International has enjoyed two seasons at Ewood Park, scoring 33 goals in 66 league games. This form has led to many rumours about Premier League clubs enquiring about the 26 year-old.

Gestede will no doubt be looking at a return to the Premier League, having played just three games in England’s top tier during the 2013-14 season with Cardiff.

Partnered by Jordan Rhodes up top for Blackburn, if a move were to come to fruition for a transfer to Watford Gestede would be partnered with fellow 20-goal-a-season strikers Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo.

Playing the best football of his career, which has seen him play in France as well as England, a £5 million price tag may not dissuade Watford from pushing through with the signing.
