Ginnelly urged to stay with Town

Highly rated winger Josh Ginnelly has been urged to stay at Shrewsbury Town by Chief Executive Matt Williams, who says that the 18-year-old should play at the Greenhous Meadow for another season, reports the Shropshire Star.

Ginnelly has attracted attention from a host of clubs in the higher leagues including Newcastle, Stoke and Sunderland. Despite this interest, Williams has suggested that it would be best for the player’s development to stick with Shrewsbury.

The second year scholar made his debut against Luton Town back in August, but has yet to sign a first professional contract offered by the club.

Williams said that “We’ve had no contact with him or his agent. All players you make an offer to will go and see what other offers are out there and I am sure that Josh is doing the same.

“He will see what offers are available to him, he will decide what is best for him.

“Personally I think his future is here because he would be working with a manager that can develop him and he’s in and around our first-team squad, but it is his choice.”

Should the young winger choose to leave Town then the club would be due compensation through a tribunal. Williams however, doesn’t want a club to come in and take him without discussions first.

Williams also stated that “I have seen it many times where players have gone to big clubs, they don’t play for the first team and in two or three years they are released. He concluded his discussion by saying “It’s for clubs like Shrewsbury to get them going again.”
