After releasing ten players, and putting a further five on the transfer list, Cambridge United have started to build for next term by signing Leon Legge from Gillingham.
U’s boss Richard Money cited the 29 year-old as a ‘crucial signing’ who will bring vital experience to United as they look to improve on a 19th placed finish this year.
After a successful FA Cup run, which included holding Premier League giants Manchester United to a 0-0 draw, United then went on a steak of just three wins out of 22 games.
Legge made a name for himself at south-coast outfit Tonbridge Angels, and after scoring ten goals in 39 games from defence, earned a move to Brentford.
Four years at Griffin Park provided Legge with invaluable league experience, and in 2013 he signed for League 1 side Gillingham.
During his spell with the Gills, the centre-back was a key part of the squad that achieved promotion from League 2 as Champions.
Speaking in his interview with the club following the signing, Legge had this to say: “The supporters and everything about the club appealed to me which is why this is the club I have chosen in the end. Cambridge was the one that felt right for me.”
