Leeds United: should they go for Spurs midfielder on loan

According to reports on the MK WEB site, it seems that recent Tottenham Hotspurs’ new signing, Dele Alli from MK Dons could very well be let out on loan next season to the Championship with Birmingham seemingly in the driving seat for his signature. The thinking behind a potential loan move to the Championship is that Tottenham will find themselves hard-pressed to give him consistent game time in their midfield and that a season in the Championship may well develop him even more as a footballer, building on the considerable talent that he has shown in a season where he really did put League One teams to the sword.

Dele Alli’s 2014/15 season

  • 39 appearances/3,399 minutes played (82% total game time)
  • 16 goals in League One (one every 212 minutes)
  • 9 goal assist passes (one every 378 minutes)

Bearing in mind these numbers, a goal every 212 minutes would suggest a return of around 20 goals a season for Dele Alli and he’d also weigh in with a potential 11 goal assist passes. It is with figures as potentially high as those that are why I am asking the following question; if Tottenham do decide to loan out Alli, should Leeds fight Birmingham for his signature?

Yes, yes they should…and even ‘chicken wing’ Birmingham aside like two ladies fighting over a gingham apron at a village jumble sale should the need arise. Leeds’ main problem last season, OK there were a few to be fair, was that there was not a consistent link from midfield that was able to process quality ball from the centre of the park to the strikers; evidence for this being that bit-player Adryan was the joint-leader on goal assist passes (2) and he only played a scant amount of games. Dele Alli has the potential to provide the assists playing as a natural attacking midfielder and will also weigh in with a decent amount of goals too. Allied to this, he would also be part of a youthful midfield at Leeds United which contains the likes of Sam Byram, Charlie Taylor and Lewis Cook with Kalvin Phillips and Chris Dawson waiting on the fringes of the starting XI.

Cellino, rather than acting like Sauron and plotting madness, be like Gandalf and look for salvation.
