Can Blues Afford Tesche?

Robert Tesche impressed the Blues fans on loan from Nottingham Forest, but is his permanent signing a realistic one?

According to Forest fans, Tesche is on nearly £25,000 a week in Nottingham and this is a substantial amount for Blues. Given that last summer, Clayton Donaldson was signed on a reported £6k a week which broke the club inflicted wage cap. Lee Clark wouldn’t pay more than £5k a week except in exceptional circumstances (which Donaldson has proved to be) so to pay five times that would be a huge risk.

On the other hand, Blues were paying Tesche’s wages at the end of last year and with a few players leaving, there should be some flexibility when it comes to the budget. The German has proved himself to be a quality Championship player and Blues should look to sign him if it is financially viable.

He may be willing to take a pay cut in order to play weekly, though this is quite unlikely and Blues may have to pay big wages to bring the midfielder to the club permanently. Forest have taken up a one-year extension on his contract. so there is also the issue that we may need to pay a fee, but hopefully Rowett and his team can sort out a deal.
