Pompey appoint Cook

Portsmouth have today announced the appointment of Paul Cook as their new manager on a 3-year deal.

“I had a great two-and-a-half-year journey at Chesterfield and enjoyed my time there immensely.” Cook said speaking to the clubs official website.
“But being able to manage a massive club like this is something I’m very excited about.
“I want to steer this ship in the right direction, but a lot of hard work is needed because there is no magic wand in football.”
Cook will be hopeful he can turn around the fortunes of pompey after another miserable season, finishing 16th in League 2 under Andy Awford who was sacked last month.
One thing Cook is particularly looking forward to experiencing, is the Fratton Park atmosphere.
“I’ve played against Pompey in the past and also managed against them, so know what the crowd are like.
“But I think everyone is aware of the fantastic fans here and we’ll do our best to give them a successful team.”
Cook spent the last two-and-a-half-years at Chesterfield, leading them to the League 2 title followed by this seasons League 1 play off campaign, which they ultimately lost to Preston on Sunday and Cook would like to thank the Chesterfield club for his time there.
“I’d like to thank the staff in all departments of the club for everything they have done during my time at the club. Most importantly, I’d also like to thank the players, who have been fantastic, both on and off the pitch. Finally, thanks to the fans for their superb support.”
Leam Richardson is also expected to join Cook at Portsmouth after leaving The Spireites this afternoon.
