Contract Talks

Gary Rowett has announced that contract talks with 14 players who are due to go out of contract will be held next Monday.

He has also vowed that if Blues do lose players, they will come back stronger next year.

Lee Novak and Jonathan Spector are among the biggest names who are due to leave in the close season.

Nikola Zigic looks resigned to leaving, whereas Rowett will be hoping Darren Randolph will sign a longer contract. Though not out of contract, there is interest in Demarai Gray and despite hope from the club he will commit his future, there is always the chance that he may have to move on.

Should these players leave, it should give Rowett more room to manoeuvre in the transfer market to sign fan-favourite Diego Fabbrini, for example, who according to a source close to Watford is not wanted by the club.

Rowett suggested that he almost expects there to a bit of an overhaul, and he’d faced similar at Burton. They lost key players but rather than falling off, they actually became a better team.

Hopefully, should Randolph, or Gray, or somebody else who has been key this season leave, Rowett can continue to build a competitive, quality side as he did at Burton.
