Rotherham given 3 point deduction

Rotherham United have been given a 3 point deduction by the Football League for fielding an ineligible player in their match against Brighton earlier this month.

The Millers won the match 1-0, but defender Farrend Rawson played the 90 minutes, despite his youth loan having expired. Rotherham incorrectly completed paperwork given to the Football League and consequently, Rawson was ineligible to play in the fixture.

In addition to the points deduction, Rotherham have also been fined £30,000, half of which is suspended until the end of the 2015/16 season. On top of this, the club also have to pay costs of the hearing and the Football League. Rotherham have until May 1st to lodge an appeal.

This puts the Millers even closer to relegation back to League One, and they now sit just 1 point above 22nd placed Millwall.
