Now, an update on the 25-year-old’s situation has emerged, with manager Lee Johnson revealing he rolled his ankle during the tie.

As per the Shields Gazette, the Black Cats will be monitoring Stewart’s knock, with the report stating that they could look to rest him for Sunderland’s midweek clash with Wigan Athletic in the Carabao Cup.

With Stewart potentially absent from the tie, it will be interesting to see who Johnson deploys at the top of the pitch.

Who could feature at striker?

On loan ace Nathan Broadhead has mainly seen his action off the bench this season, but it would be interesting to see him played from the start.

Benjamin Kimpioka is still waiting on his first appearance for the senior side side this season, so he could come into the fray if Stewart is absent.

In the Carabao Cup, versatile forward Aiden O’Brien, who can play at striker or out on the wing, as been Johnson’s go-to goalscorer, netting four in two so far, so he is another possibility.
