Lincoln City attacker Billy Brooks has been loaned out to Gainsborough Trinity, as announced by their official club website.

Lincoln City have allowed the youngster to head out the exit door on loan.

Brooks, who is 17-years-old, has been given the green light to drop into non-league to get some first-team experience under his belt.

He linked up with Gainsborough yesterday and was thrown straight in for his debut in their 1-0 win over Stalybridge Celtic.

Brooks is highly-rated by Lincoln and has risen up through their academy.

He was offered a scholarship deal whilst at Under-16 level and was then handed his senior debut against Manchester United Under-21’s last month in the EFL Trophy.

August was a successful month for Brooks as he was also called up for Republic of Ireland Under-18’s and made his debut against Hungary.

Loan move

Michael Appleton’s side have allowed him to head to Gainsborough to get some regular football and it will be interesting to see how he gets on in non-league.

Brooks is seen as one for the future and the experience of playing senior football at the age of 17 will only be a good thing for his development.

He helped his new side win on his debut yesterday but his parent club Lincoln were beaten by out-of-form Ipswich Town at Sincil Bank 1-0.
