Bolton on the hunt for Celtic front-man

The Daily Star have reported that Celtic’s Anthony Stokes is a target for Bolton this summer.

Republic of Ireland International Stokes has enjoyed five seasons at Celtic Park, winning the Scottish Premier League title three times, the Scottish Cup twice, and the Scottish League Cup once.

Bolton manager Neil Lennon knows Stokes well – as he is the person who signed the striker for Celtic, and worked with him for four years prior to his departure.

Stokes has already forayed into English football with several different clubs, and started his career at Arsenal – although he failed to make a first-team appearance for the Gunners.

Unsuccessful loan moves to Crystal Palace and Sheffield United, while under contract with Sunderland, led to a move up north to Hibernian.

In his first (and only) full season with Hibs, the 26 year-old bagged 23 goals in just 43 games, a record which put him firmly on the radar of many clubs.

A £1.2 million transfer to Scottish giants Celtic soon followed, and in his five year stay with The Hoops Stokes has a very respectable 76 goals in 190 games.

With Bolton’s front-line ever-ageing – Emile Heskey will turn 38 next term, while Eidur Gudjohnsen will turn 37 – and the expiration of Adam Le Fondre’s loan spell from Cardiff, it comes as no surprise manager Neil Lennon is on the lookout for strikers.
