Bowyer eyeing stay for Wanderers defender

Blackburn Rovers boss Gary Bowyer has told the Lancashire Telegraph that he ‘would love’ to keep on loan Bolton defender Alex Baptiste at the club for next season.

Blackburn are currently under a transfer embargo which would prevent them from paying any fees for the 29 year old. Baptiste also has a year left on his contract at the Macron Stadium but it is thought that Neil Lennon and Bolton could let Baptiste go to free up wages for incoming summer additions.

Baptiste, who started his career with current League Two club Mansfield Town, has previously said that he is open to a move that would see him become a Blackburn Rovers player on a permanent basis. This should be music to Gary Bowyer’s ears as he said:

“I’d love to keep him, […] I can’t speak highly enough of him”

Speaking about his contract, Bowyer continued:

“Obviously he’s contracted to Bolton and we’ll see what happens when he goes back there. […] It becomes Bolton’s decision whether they want to keep him next season or not. He’s got a year left.”

Baptiste has made 34 appearances in all competitions for Rovers this season, contributing with three goals.
