Mourinho approved Ribeiro a target for Cardiff

Vitoria Setubal’s manager Bruno Ribeiro is on Cardiff’s radar as a potential new manager in the summer reports in Portugal have suggested.

Numerous websites have reported on the story of Cardiff’s interest, with the Welsh club’s owner Vincent Tan known for regularly changing up the managerial position.

39 year-old Ribeiro, who has knowledge of English football having played for Sheffield United and Leeds as a midfielder, is currently sitting 15th in the Portugese Primeira Liga, five points off the relegation places.

Ribeiro and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho have known each a while, both being born in the same city (Setubal) and having previously worked together. Mourinho has apparently recommended the services of his fellow manager to the Bluebirds.

Cardiff are currently sitting safely in mid table, however having sacked Ole Gunner Solskjaer at the start of the season replacement Russell Slade has only managed nine wins in his 31 game tenure.

With Ribeiro being out of contract at the end of the season, and Cardiff having already made contact with the manager, a deal being struck is a distinct possibility.

However, it is likely no official comment will be made until the end of the season with Ribeiro wanting to maintain his full focus on keeping his hometown side in Portugal’s top division.
