Race for the Golden Boot; The Championship

The Race for the Boot.

Every year you always have strikers  racing towards the end of the season aiming to have the glory of being named the leading scorer in a particular division, this year is no different. The Championship really is the ‘money division’, the teams promoted are not only in the ‘big time’ of the Premier League but are also in the ‘big money’ of what is recognised as football’s top league. What I will be looking at in the following pages are the top 5 goal scorers in the Championship and looking at just where they might end up at the end of the season.

This is how the top 5 ended last season:

  1. Ross McCormack (Leeds United) – 28 goals (goal per 147 minutes)
  2. Jordan Rhodes (Huddersfield Town) – 25 goals (goal per 161 minutes)
  3. Troy Deeney (Watford) – 24 goals (goal per 165 minutes)
  4. Chris Martin (Derby County) – 22 goals (goal per 187 minutes)
  5. Lewis Grabban (Bournemouth) – 22 goals (goal per 172 minutes)
