Oxford bid for £1.5m rated League Two star rejected

Oxford United have had a bid rejected for Coventry forward Jodi Jones, according to the Coventry Telegraph.

League One side Oxford are trying to lure the striker away from the Ricoh Arena, but have seen their first bid knocked back. The Sky Blues apparently want £1.5 million for him and Oxford’s bid fell short of that.

Former Coventry manager Tony Mowbray signed Jodi Jones on an emergency loan in March 2016 before making it permanent in that summer. He made 45 appearances for Coventry in League One last season. He was part of the Coventry side who beat Oxford in the Checkatrade Trophy Final. However, he was unable to prevent them from being relegated to League Two, scoring only 3 goals all season.

Jones has had an explosive start to life in League Two. He scored a hat-rick on the opening day of the season, as Coventry beat Notts County. It is his impressive start that has attracted Oxford’s attention. It is possible that they could come back in for him today.

Oxford boss Pep Clotet will be in the market today and will look to bring fresh faces to the Kassam Stadium. He will be keen to replace winger Marvin Johnson, who looks set to leave the League One side for Championship outfit Middlesbrough. Jodi Jones is one target but it is believed Oxford have other names on their list too. They have already brought in quality players like Jack Payne from Huddersfield and James Henry from Wolves, who spent last season on loan at Bolton as they gained promotion from League One.
