Yeovil boss receives words of wisdom from Sir Alex

Darren Way is certainly in the box-seat to become the permanent Yeovil Town manager. The caretaker received a phone club from none other than Sir Alex Ferguson after the 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient, and provided some managerial advice as well.

Way, who played over 200 times for the Glovers over two spells as a player, was recently appointed as the interim manager at Huish Park following the board’s decision to sack Paul Sturrock. However on the coach journey back from Brisbane Road last week, Way revealed that he received quite an unexpected phone call from the Manchester United legend to Western Daily Press,

“I took a phone call this week from Sir Alex (Ferguson).

I was trying to find a place to speak to him privately on the bus, but when you have got 20 players and a driver ear-wigging it is difficult.

But it was a great boost to me and he gave me good advice on what a manager needs and he has just text me as well saying ‘Good result’, so it can’t get any better at the moment.”

Way went on to comment that he certainly cannot accuse the players of a lack of commitment and desire during his short time in charge alongside Terry Skiverton. Many fans are of the opinion that he is getting the best of the players he has at his disposal and he is currently the short odds-on favourite to be appointed on a permanent basis.

Yeovil and Way travel to Plymouth Argyle on Boxing Day, it what promises to be a very difficult challenge. However the current interim manager insists that ‘it is a challenge I am not scared of.’
