Leeds United get good news regarding young midfielder

Leeds United midfielder Ronaldo Vieira is not only blessed with a great combination of names, but he also has the talent to boot. Now he has given Leeds United a welcome boost according to news from the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Lee Sobot.

The 18-year-old central midfielder, whose rise to prominence this season has been nothing if not meteoric. He has seen his Leeds United career go from a pre-season appearance against an Isle of Man XI, signed to the U-18s, a cameo in the last game of the 2015/16 season to that of a bona fide first-team regular – as the picture below shows.

However, after featuring 31 times this season, in his virgin Sky Bet Championship campaign, one which has brought him a goal and an assist, the young starlet has missed the last two Championship games due to an unspecified bout of illness. This illness reduced him to a bench role against Newcastle and out of the squad altogether for the Elland Road loss against Wolves.

Now with the Whites facing a make-or-break last three games of the season against Burton Albion, Norwich City and Wigan Athletic, the youngster is about to present both the club’s management and fans with the most welcome of news – his readiness to return to the fray.

Lee Sobot, writing in the YEP, quotes Leeds United head coach Garry Monk as saying: “He (Vieira) was ill beforehand at Newcastle and then got a little bit more (sick) afterwards,” said Monk of Vieira. “The illness has kept him out and we are hoping he will be back ready and in contention for selection for the squad for the weekend.

Leeds’ first game of the run-in, where Ronaldo Vieira could feature, is against Burton Albion where three points is a necessity if United are going to regain the momentum for their play-off and promotion push.
