Watford get Connolly from Cardiff

Watford have signed Cardiff City defender Matthew Connolly on loan until the end of the season.

The versatile defender can play anywhere across the whole back four, giving him space in the first team.

Connolly, 27, has made 26 appearances this season for Russell Slade’s squad this season.

Watford boss Slavisa Jokanovic has wheeled in Connolly to help battle for promotion, with 8 games to go, as they are currently top of the league on 72 points, ahead of Middlesbrough on goal difference. The defender has previously achieved promotion to the Premier League with QPR and Reading.

An official statement from Cardiff City read:

“‘We have accepted a loan offer for Matthew Connolly from Watford FC. Matthew will link up with the Hornets immediately, subject to international clearance. The emergency loan spell will run until June 1st 2015 inclusive. We wish Matthew the very best of luck during his time at Vicarage Road.”
