‘Load of bull’ – Plymouth boss critical of ‘lazy journalism’ as he dismisses Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County striker interest

When a team has a free-scoring striker, then eyes and glances seem to be directed their way.

That is the definitely the case with Plymouth Argyle and their striker Luke Jephcott who has 16 League One goals for the season.

Teams such as Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County have been linked but Plymouth boss Ryan Lowe is quick to dismiss these links in talking with Plymouth Live.

21-year-old Jephcott is a product of the Plymouth Argyle youth system, joining the club in 2014 from Cornish side Helston Athletic.

The young Aberystwyth-born striker has hit 25 goals and provided one assist since making the step up to the senior side at Home Park. His 50 appearances for The Pilgrims include 24 in this season’s League One competition that have seen him spearhead Argyle’s attack with 16 goals.

That has led to interest from a host of clubs in the Championship with sources mentioning up to SEVEN interested parties including Sheffield Wednesday ad Derby County.

However, his boss, Ryan Lowe, dismisses all these stories and does so bluntly.

Ryan Lowe did not hold back when commenting about the Jephcott ‘interest’. In fact, it was front-foot forward and into attack from the Plymouth manager.

Commenting on the fact that the club had received no phone-calls from any of the named parties, Lowe said it was “a load of bull” dismissing such claims as “whoever it is coming from.

Lowe didn’t hold back later in the piece either, criticising those at the source of the news. Still on the offensive, Lowe forcefully said: “It’s just lazy journalism if you ask me.”
