The72 FA Cup Weekend Awards: First Round Proper

YOUNG PLAYER OF THE WEEKEND: Robert Ramshaw – Gateshead

Robert+Ramshaw+Norton+United+v+Gateshead+FA+0zhu7S1dKcBlA name-remembering performance from 20-year-old Robert Ramshaw who notched up a quality hat-trick away to Norton United. His triple clinched a comfortable 4-0 win against the Evo-Stick League side, the only other eighth-tier side left in the competition, and get them into the draw for the second round

The Conference side have done well in the past few years to reach the first round proper but this is only the second time in recent years they’ve managed to get closer to that elusive third round and that’s mainly thanks to Ramshaw. Hopefully he can continue his form in the league and see Gateshead gain easy access to the first round next season as a Football League side.

(Note: This piece was written before last night’s game but a tip of the hat to 19-year-old Callum Robinson, who scored a hat-trick for Preston against Havant and Waterlooville)
