Sheffield Wednesday identify 2. Bundesliga ace as potential target, player receptive to move

Sheffield Wednesday have identified Hansa Rostock midfielder Svante Ingelsson as a potential transfer target, The Star has said.

Sheffield Wednesday transfer speculation has been rife as they look to bolster the ranks this summer.

Three signings have already been made with Max Lowe, Ben Hamer and Yan Valery all signing permanently. Among those recently linked with the Owls are departing Manchester United striker Charlie McNeill, wing-back Mickel Miller and more.

Now, fresh claims of a potential Danny Rohl transfer target have emerged.

According to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday have identified Swedish midfielder Svante Ingelsson as a possible addition. The 26-year-old is currently on the books at 2. Bundesliga side Hansa Rostock, but they have just been relegated to the third-tier of German football.

Two German clubs are also keen, but Ingelsson is ‘receptive’ to a Championship switch. He is under contract until 2026 having signed an extended deal last summer, but will be free to leave for nothing after his club’s relegation.

Who is this?

A valuable addition?

The midfield is bound to be an area Sheffield Wednesday look to bolster this summer and a move for someone like Ingelsson could prove to be very valuable for Rohl.

Looking at the Kalmar-born ace, one of the first things that stands out is his versatility. He mainly operates as an attacking midfielder but is comfortable in a slightly deeper role and out on the left-wing too, even playing as a striker on occasion.

He seems to have other admirers that could put a spanner in the works, but Wednesday would be making a wise move to sign a versatile midfielder for nothing. Off the back of a decent individual season in a relegated side, it looks to be a deal Ingelsson deserves too.

The current midfield options

The midfield is a very bare area of the park as it stands.

Currently, Barry Bannan is the only midfielder contracted to Sheffield Wednesday beyond the end of this month. Club legend Liam Palmer can play in the middle, but he is primarily a defender.

It gives Rohl a lot of work to do but it offers him a clean slate to build his ideal midfield next season. That opportunity will be welcomed with open arms, even if it means they’ll have to be very active in the transfer market to fill out the ranks again.

It remains to be seen whether Ingelsson is part of that midfield makeover, but with the player receptive to the move and poised to exit Hansa Rostock, it certainly seems like a feasible deal if the Owls firm up their interest.
