3 Kieran Ngwenya alternatives QPR should consider amid left-back pursuit

QPR are reportedly interested in a move for left-back Kieran Ngwenya following his exit from Aberdeen, according to the Daily Record.

QPR could see the defender as someone to add more competition and depth to their ranks as they prepare for another year in the Championship. They managed to stay up last season under the guidance of Spanish boss Marti Cifuentes.

Ngwenya, 21, is available as a free agent after Aberdeen decided against extending his contract at the end of the last campaign. He is also said to be on the radar of Dunfermline Athletic and Partick Thistle at this moment in time with his situation up in the air right now.

The full-back spent last term on loan with the latter in the Scottish Championship. Here is a look at three alternatives who the Hoops should target in his position as they chase down some new signings this summer…

Alex Cochrane

The 24-year-old, who is a former England youth international, has been a key player for Hearts over recent times. He joined the Scottish Premiership side on loan in 2021 before they made his switch permanent a year left.

He has made 139 appearances for the Edinburgh outfit in all competitions and has chipped in with five goals. The Brighton and Hove Albion academy graduate helped the Jam Tarts finish 3rd last term behind Celtic and Rangers.

Callum Styles

He is due to return to pre-season with Barnsley in League One following his loan at Sunderland. The versatile northerner can play at left full-back as well as midfield.

It remains to be seen whether the Black Cats will try and lure him back to the North East which could open the door for other teams to swoop in. He is currently away at Euro 2024 with the Hungary national team.

Owen Beck

Liverpool have a decision to make on what to do next with the youngster and he could be a shrewd addition by QPR. The 21-year-old has a bright future ahead of him in the game and could do with getting some experience.

Beck has been on the books at Anfield since 2015 and has made three first-team appearances for the Premier League giants. He has also been loaned out by the Reds to Famalicão, Bolton Wanderers and Dundee to boost his development.
