Derby County to net big windfall as Premier League clubs strike £19m deal

Derby County are due a healthy chunk of the fee Chelsea are paying Aston Villa for Omari Kellyman, as per reporter Tom Collomosse.

Derby County have seen a whole host of top prospects come through their ranks over the years.

Some have gone on to become first-team mainstays, with the likes of Eiran Cashin, Max Bird and Louie Sibley among the most recent players to follow that well-trodden path.

Others were prized away by top clubs before they could make breakthroughs though, especially during the Rams’ administration. Among them was attacking midfielder Omari Kellyman, who was snapped up by Aston Villa.

Now though, Kellyman looks to be on the verge of a big £19m move to Chelsea. Fabrizio Romano stated earlier recently that the deal should be made official before the end of the week.

It seems former club Derby County are set to benefit from this deal too though. Writing on X, reporter Tom Collomosse states the Rams are due as much as 15% of the Kellyman fee.

If the youngster is indeed moving for the £19m reported, that puts the Championship side in line for £2.85m.

Who is this?

A welcome boost

Having lost Kellyman over two years ago during a tough time in their history, Derby County may be left wondering just how much they could have sold the youngster for had they been in a position to turn down offers.

Nevertheless, administrators took it out of their hands, and the Derby-born prospect moved on.

However, there will be comfort taken in the fact that Kellyman is still going to make the club a healthy amount through a sell-on. The 15% reported could see the Rams gain around £2.85m, which will be of great value in their bid to prepare for Championship football.

Paul Warne and co are in for a busy summer, so some extra funds will be welcomed with open arms as one of their former prodigies makes a high profile move between Premier League giants.

Looking to next season

There are plenty of experienced players with Championship pedigree in the Derby County ranks, so Warne will be hoping they can be a positive influence upon their step back up to the second-tier.

Faith will be placed in a lot of the group who were key in promotion, but new signings are a must.

The midfield especially is an area that will need to be bolstered. Warne has effectively seen the slate wiped clean with Max Bird, Conor Hourihane and Korey Smith moving on, so that is sure to be an area of focus.

Elsewhere, a new talisman will be sought and could be an area the the Rams spend on this summer.
