Peterborough United man chased by Newcastle and Everton in PL race

Peterborough United defender Ronnie Edwards is wanted by Newcastle and Everton this summer, as per TBR Football.

Peterborough United are preparing for another season in League One.

Darren Ferguson is the man at the helm and he got Peterborough United into the top six last season, but they lost to eventual winners Oxford United.

Edwards, 21, played a big part in their success. The young defender won their player of the year award and played a huge 55 games across all competitions for Posh.

He is now in the final year of his contract and Peterborough United are ready to cash in on their prospect.

It was claimed earlier today that negotiations had already taken place with an unnamed Premier League club and a fresh update has namedropped some of those interest.

Southampton are said to be keen, whilst Newcastle United, Everton and Brighton also hold interest and are monitoring the situation.

Who is this?

Time to move on

Edwards has been a great player for the club and he is destined for big things.

The central defender looks likely to make the step straight up to the top flight from League One this summer and it will be interesting to see how he manages that jump up at first.

He has got plenty of first team experience under his belt already at 21, but the demands of the Premier League are another beast and it will take some time for him to adapt should he sign for a top division club this summer.

Peterborough United won’t sell if no club matches their valuation though and that’s a good sign as Posh will need to use some of the funds to reinvest in their squad if Edwards departs.

Promotion is the aim

Peterborough United will want to go for another top six finish next season.

However, League One is never an easy league to compete in and the newly-relegated clubs appear to mean business. Rotherham United have made some strong early moves this summer, whilst Birmingham City appear to have a lot of money to spend on transfers.

Posh have their work cut out for them, but they themselves have already made some positive inroads in terms of signings and a few more additions could put them in a good position looking ahead at the 2024/35 campaign.
