Leeds United to miss out on defensive target as Ipswich Town close in on signing

Leeds United are set to miss out on West Ham man Ben Johnson with a move to Ipswich Town now looking likely, as per The West Ham Way.

Leeds United are preparing for another year in the Championship this summer.

The Whites missed out on promotion back to the Premier League despite ending the season on a good run of form.

Daniel Farke’s side were inconsistent at first and it cost them in the end, but it will be hoped this time around they manage to get over the line.

Johnson, 24, played 14 games for West Ham last season in the Premier League. The versatile defender featured majorly at right back for the Hammers and has been on the fringes of their squad for several years now.

With his contract set to expire this month, several clubs were linked with a free transfer for him. Leeds United were joined by a host of top flight clubs who wanted Johnson this summer, however the Whites are set to miss out on this one.

The latest update claims Ipswich Town are set to add Johnson to their ranks. Talks are at an advanced stage and Johnson is expected to sign a five year contract in the coming days.

Who is this?

Hard to compete

Ipswich Town finished 2nd in the Championship last season and Kieran McKenna’s side can offer Premier League football.

They are one of the teams to watch this season as their rise from League One to Premier League with back-to-back promotions has fans excited over what they can now achieve in the top tier.

Johnson will add experience to the dressing room, but he could do with being a more regular feature at Ipswich Town as opposed to inconsistently being part of the squad as was the case in the capital.

Moving on

Leeds United have made positive moves already this summer, but there is a lot of work still for them to do.

Farke’s side is strong and will once again be one of the favourites for promotion this season. However, a lot will ride on what happens over the next month or so in regards to incomings and outoings.

The German boss has plenty promotion experience though and it will be hoped after coming so close next season, he can add the finishing touches to his squad in order to return to the top flight this time around.
