Swansea City close in on 22-year-old French signing

Swansea City are nearing a deal to sign French winger Gautier Ott, as per Portuguese outlet Record.

Swansea City are preparing for another season in the Championship.

This is Luke Williams’ first pre-season at the helm of the Swans and he will be hoping the summer window and added time on the training pitch will yield better results for him next season.

Swansea City finished 14th last season failing to find any real consistency throughout the campaign.

Ott, 22, currently plays for Academico Viseu in Portugal’s second tier. The French winger played 33 league games last season, scoring twice and assisting seven.

He moved to Portugal from Hoffenheim’s B team in 2022 and could be on the move to England this summer.

A report claims Swansea City are very close to the signing with it claimed it could be finalised next week.

This follows the claim that the Swans will pay €1.5million to sign Ott on a three year contract with the option of a further year.

Who is this?

An exciting addition

Ott is unproven and unknown to many in England, but he brings potential in the wide areas.

The 22-year-old has a lot of room to grow into still, but he has been exposed to first team football for sometime now and he could be ready to make the step up to the Championship this summer.

Williams may not be able to rely on him week in, week out at first but if managed well he could become a very good player for the Swans to have in their ranks.

However, there is still a lot of work to do this summer if Swansea City want to make their mark on the second tier next season.

Struggling to adapt

Since falling into the Championship Swansea City have failed to really compete for the top six spots.

Most newly-relegated teams spent their time in and around the play-offs, but that hasn’t really been the case since Swansea City’s return to the Championship.

They are a club with ambitions of playing Premier League football, but they remain someway off being able to do that.

Williams joined the club from Notts County after getting them promoted back into the Football League, but he didn’t really hit the ground running in Wales.

It will be hoped with the right backing this summer he will be able to properly implement his style into the squad for next season.
