Wealdstone new boy Elliot Simmons has been ‘on the radar’ of Huddersfield Town as well as some other English clubs, as detailed on their official club website.

Simmons, 26, played for Vancouver FC in the Canadian Premier League and made 26 appearances in all competitions. He has now decided to move back to England.

His new manager has said: “Elliot is a midfielder with outstanding technical ability who can receive the ball deep, but also pose a threat in the final third. His footballing journey now brings him back to England and I know from speaking to him just how excited he to play for Wealdstone.”

Huddersfield Town are preparing for life back in League One following their relegation from the Championship. They dropped out of the second tier along with Rotherham United and Birmingham City.

The Terriers have turned to former Cheltenham Town, Barnsley and Swansea City boss Michael Duff as they look to gain an immediate promotion.

They will be keen to get their recruitment right this summer to give themselves the best chance of success.

The Yorkshire side published their retained list last month and confirmed that Jordan Rhodes, Brahima Diarra, Connor Mahoney, Yuta Nakayama, Aaron Rowe, Charles Ondo, Giosue Bellagambi and Mustapha Olagunju have been released.

These exits have freed up space and funds in their ranks to bring in some reinforecement. However, Simmons won’t be coming through the entrance door anytime soon following his Wealdstone move.

More on Simmons

The Luton-born man has played in a few different countries so far in his career.

He has had spells in England with MK Dons, Spain with FC Malaga City, Sweden with Dalkurd, Finland with Mikkelin Palloilijat.

Simmons has also enjoyed time in Canada with Ottawa Fury, HFX Wanderers, Cavalry and most recently Vancouver.

He is now back in England and will be looking to use his time with Wealdstone as a stepping stone to eventually move into the Football League down the line.
