Rotherham United have received two bids for defender Peter Kioso, as per The Advertiser.

Rotherham United are gearing up for life back in League One this season.

Steve Evans’ side were relegated last time around finishing bottom in the Championship.

The Millers have become all too familiar with this promotion and relegation yo-yo, and they are once again hoping to achieve an immediate return back to the second tier.

Kioso, 24, spent part of last season on loan at Peterborough United in League One. He played 27 games for Posh across all competitions, scoring once and assisting another two.

Rotherham United recalled him and Kioso became popular amongst the fanbase in his 12 outings in the Championship.

Evans said this week: “There has been good interest in Peter from Championship level.”

The latest update suggests two bids upwards of £600,000 and £700,000 are on the table for Rotherham United to consider and it appears a summer departure is inevitable for the right back.

Fighting a losing battle

Evans and Rotherham United would’ve been aided by keeping Kioso at the club for next season, however it seems there is no way for them to convince Kioso to stay beyond this summer.

The right back has one year left on his current deal and it’s important the club now negotiate to get the best price possible to allow them to strengthen other areas of their squad this summer.

Kioso is still relatively inexperienced when it comes to second tier football having registered just 39 appearances in the second tier across four seasons. He needs a consistent run of games and a full season in the Championship to help him really fulfill his potential and that chance may be just around the corner.

No cause for concern

Whilst it isn’t ideal for the Millers, optimism is still high surrounding their chances next season.

They have become well known for earning promotion out of League One and once again next season they are one of the favourites.

Evans has the fans on board and if his side can start strong then they could run away with things next season.

They’ve started on the front foot so far this summer and it doesn’t look as if they are slowing down in their attempt to prepare their squad ready for a promotion charge in the 2024/25 campaign.
