Peterborough United star due for Sheffield United medical, club remains coy

Sheffield United look to be nearing a deal for Peterborough United star Harrison Burrows with the Peterborough Telegraph stating he is due for a medical this week.

Sheffield United are preparing for a return to Championship football and there is set to be big changes to the playing ranks at Bramall Lane.

A number of senior players are moving on while key assets could be sold. It means the Blades will need to sign new stars, but the uncertainty over their takeover could impact proceedings.

Now though, speculation is circulating over a potential deal for Peterborough United star Harrison Burrows, who is entering the last year of his contract at London Road.

The Peterborough Telegraph reports that 22-year-old Burrows is due for a medical in Sheffield later this week ahead of a proposed move. They add that Posh have refused to comment on the matter though.

Sheffield United would need to pay a sizeable sum for the left-back after his stunning 2023/24 campaign.

Burrows managed 12 goals and 18 assists in 58 games for League One side. He assumed the role as club captain halfway through the season too, displaying his leadership abilities with his hometown side.

Who is this?

On the move

Having enjoyed such a strong season with Peterborough United, it has felt like an inevitability that Burrows will move on from London Road after falling short of promotion.

It was by far the best campaign of Burrows’ career to date and while Darren Ferguson’s side tasted heartbreak, there was Wembley glory for Posh in the EFL Trophy Final. Burrows netted both goals in the 2-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers to lift the trophy.

It remains to be seen whether or not Sheffield United are set to sign him though. As said before, the takeover saga means cash signings now will come as a surprise and Peterborough have remained coy when quizzed on the matter.

Nevertheless, a step up to the Championship should await Burrows, but time will tell if its the Blades who he joins.

A gap in Wilder’s side

The starting spot on the left-hand side will be up for grabs under Wilder. Burrows could be an ideal fit, be it as a wing-back or full-back.

Max Lowe is moving on from Sheffield United at the end of his contract with a Sheffield Wednesday switch already sealed. Yasser Larouci’s loan will come to an end, leaving just Rhys Norrington-Davies on the books.

It means the place is there for Burrows to claim if a Bramall Lane switch is around the corner.

Having starred in League One and made a decent impression in his single Championship campaign, many will back Burrows to thrive with the Blades if a move comes to fruition.
