Leeds United are keeping tabs on RB Salzburg striker Petar Ratkov, reporter Ben Jacobs has written for Give Me Sport.

Leeds United are preparing for another season of Championship football after coming up short in their push for promotion back to the Premier League.

It has set them up for a tricky transfer window with exits for key players inevitable as the Whites look to raise funds to settle outstanding payments on transfer instalments.

Nevertheless, new signings will be on the radar too, and some fresh faces have been linked with the club.

Now, reporter Ben Jacobs has written for Give Me Sport that Leeds United are keeping an eye on the process of Serbian striker Petar Ratkov, who is currently on the books with Austrian side RB Salzburg.

Rangers, who missed out on signing the 20-year-old last summer, also remain keen.

Ratkov is under contract until 2028 and despite the recent Red Bull sponsorship at Elland Road, the young striker is someone Leeds United have had an eye on beyond the recent investment from the high-profile company.

Who is this?

A striker on the radar?

The general feeling is that Leeds United will have their business dictated by outgoings this summer.

Of course, there are areas that need bolstering before star men depart. The full-back roles will need adding to, but should there be exits, a striker could be on the shopping list.

Patrick Bamford’s sizeable wages could mean an exit for him raises some welcome funds for the Whites. Joe Gelhardt could certainly benefit from a move away too, and that would leave just Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph as options up top.

Georginio Rutter can play as a striker too and Brenden Aaronson’s return could pave the way for him to move there. However, he’s found huge success as an attacking midfielder and he too could attract admirers after his impressive campaign.

A feasible deal

If Leeds United were to act on their Ratkov interest, it could be both a feasible and smart deal.

The Whites aren’t under the Red Bull ownership, so don’t expect them to strike deals with the likes of RB Salzburg, Leipzig and more. However, the strong relationship should stand them in good stead to move for the likes of Ratkov is he is indeed a target.

His long-term deal means a move might not be cheap. However, with some key assets poised to be sold, bringing in another promising player like Ratkov with high resale value could be clever business this summer.

Ratkov notched six goals and three assists in 35 games during his first season with Salzburg. He had previously made a name for himself in his native Serbia with FK TSC.
