3 Alfie May replacements Charlton Athletic must consider with new bid expected

Charlton Athletic talisman Alfie May has already drawn interest from elsewhere this summer with Huddersfield Town making a bid.

Charlton Athletic duly turned down the offer from the relegated Terriers for star man May.

However, reports have said that Huddersfield Town are expected to return with a new offer. It remains to be seen when that lands and just how much is tabled to the Addicks.

A striker or two will be needed at The Valley even before any potential departure for May. An exit for him would leave a big gap in Nathan Jones’ attack, so the South London outfit would be wise to keep some potential replacements in mind.

Here, we put forward three strikers Charlton Athletic should consider amid the strong interest in May…

Will Evans – Newport County

26-year-old striker Evans has been on quite the rise in his native Wales. It all led to the season of his life as he notched 25 goals and four assists in 55 games for League Two side Newport County in the 2023/24 campaign.

Evans is under contract until next summer but should a club like Charlton Athletic come calling, it would not be a surprise to see him tempted away from Rodney Parade ahead of next season.

A move could appeal to Newport too, giving them a chance to cash in on their star striker and removing any risk of losing him for nothing this time next year.

Kayden Jackson – Ipswich Town

Jackson will be moving on from Ipswich Town this summer following their promotion to the Premier League, and he won’t be short of suitors as his next move awaits.

He was regularly involved for Kieran McKenna’s side, offering his services as a striker or winger. Thee 30-year-old played off the bench much of the time but a drop back to League One could offer him a return to starting football.

Jackson has thrived in the third-tier before and will only be stronger for his time in the Championship. On a free transfer, this would be a strong signing for Charlton Athletic if they were to lose May.

Who is this?

Macaulay Langstaff – Notts County

Perhaps an ambitious suggestion, but Langstaff has been one of the most prolific strikers in England alongside Charlton Athletic star May in recent seasons.

He was key in getting Notts County to League Two and in his maiden campaign at the level, the striker managed 28 goals and four assists in 46 games for the Magpies.

Langstaff is under contract until 2027 and has just been made club captain at Meadow Lane. If he moves, it won’t be on the cheap, but the Addicks should aim high if they lose May.
