Stoke City, Plymouth Argyle and Cardiff City want Aberdeen midfielder Connor Barron this summer, as per a report by the Daily Record.

The Championship trio have joined Swansea City in pursuit of the Scotsman as they all prepare for the new 2024/25 season. He is out of contract at the end of this month and is yet to sign an extension meaning he will become available as things stand.

Barron, 21, broke into the Dons’ first-team in the Scottish Premiership in the last campaign and is being tipped for a bright future in the game. He is now weighing up his options and has a big decision to make.

In this latest update regarding his situation by the Daily Record, he has an offer on the table from Rangers as they look to pip rivals Celtic to the title next term. However, he has other suitors from below the border from Stoke City, Plymouth Argyle and Cardiff City, as well as Hellas Verona in Italy.

Barron has been on the books at Aberdeen for his whole career to date and rose up through their academy ranks.

He was a regular for the Dons at various different youth levels before he was handed his senior debut back in January 2022 in a Scottish Cup clash against Edinburgh City.

The Kintore-born man then had loan spells away at Brechin City and Kelty Hearts in the lower leagues to get some experience under his belt.

Barron then returned Aberdeen and hasn’t looked back since. He has become one of their most prized assets and has made 73 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with two goals and four assists.

However, they are facing a huge battle to retain his services amid interest from other teams.

Where next?

Stoke City are in for a busy next couple of months now the transfer window is open for business. They have already signed goalkeeper Viktor Johansson and defender Ben Gibson and could see Barron as someone to bolster their midfield department.

Plymouth Argyle have turned to ex-Derby County and Birmingham City boss Wayne Rooney as their new manager and he will be looking to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad.

Meanwhile, Cardiff City have managed to keep hold of Erol Bulut which is a boost for them and they may have identified Barron as a potential target as they look to bring in some new faces.
