3 centre-backs QPR should keep in mind amid multi-club interest in 25-year-old

QPR were linked with Rotherham United defender Cameron Humphreys earlier this week, but they’re not the only ones keen.

QPR are in the market for new recruits this summer, with the backline in need of bolstering.

One man rumoured to be on the radar is Cameron Humphreys, who looked solid in the Championship despite Rotherham United’s struggles. As such, all of Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall and Swansea City were linked with the 25-year-old alongside the R’s.

Such interest in his services could mean there’s a bit of a fight to bring him in. And, in the event he heads elsewhere, those at Loftus Road should be prepared to turn to other targets.

Here, we put forward three alternatives QPR should consider…

Di’Shon Bernard – Sheffield Wednesday

Former Manchester United man Bernard’s future at Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday remains up in the air and it has already been said that a number of clubs are taking an interest in his services.

The 23-year-old became an influential performer for the Owls as they staved off relegation to League One, operating well in both a back three and back four. He’s at a good age to develop and on a potential free transfer, he could be a bargain signing.

If new terms go unsigned at Hillsborough, QPR would be wise to be on Bernard’s tail.

Raul Torrente – Granada CF

If Cifuentes wants to put his Spanish links to use, Raul Torrente could be a great addition for the R’s.

The centre-back turns 23 in September and amid limited game time with a relegated Granada, he is yet to extend his contract with the club. The deal runs out later this month and he will have suitors if it is left to run out.

He’s gained experience at a good level in La Liga but the time has come for him to play senior football on a regular basis. A Championship move could be an exciting option and under a Spanish boss, QPR could be the ideal place for Torrente to kick on.

Who is this?

Japhet Tanganga – Spurs

Last but not least is a sought-after player, but one who could be a feasible addition.

Tanganga will be moving on from Tottenham Hotspur this summer and having impressed on loan at Millwall over the second half of last season, he’s wanted back in the Championship. The Lions are keen on a reunion while relegated Luton Town are admirers too.

Strong competition for his signature could make it a tricky deal to do but QPR should at least throw their name in the hat. If they were to pull off a deal, it would be a fantastic bit of business for the West Londoners.
