Player who left Notts County earlier this year finds new club

Dan Gosling has joined Westfield following his exit from Notts County earlier this year, as announced by their official X account.

The 34-year-old has dropped into non-league, despite announcing his retirement from the game in May. His new team play their football in the Mid Sussex Football League Premier Division which is the seventh tier and they are part-owned by QPR defender Steve Cook.

Gosling, who is a former England youth international, cut ties with Notts County back in January after his short-term deal with the League Two side came to an end. He has since joined Watford as an academy coach alongside his former AFC Bournemouth teammate Charlie Daniels.

In this latest update regarding his situation, Westfield have confirmed that he will be putting his boots back on to play for them. Cook has said: “The club is going from strength to strength and we are delighted to retain many of our current players while welcoming new faces to the squad.”

Who is this?

New home for ex-Notts County man

Notts County signed Gosling in November last year on a free transfer to bolster their midfield ranks and inject some experience into their squad.

They were promoted from the National League last year along with Wrexham and lost boss Luke Williams to Swansea City during the last campaign which wasn’t ideal. He was replaced with Stuart Maynard from Wealdstone.

Gosling went on to play eight matches in all competitions for the Magpies, six of which came in the league, but he parted ways this past winter.

The Devon-born man rose up through the academy ranks at Plymouth Argyle and was a regular for them at youth levels before going on to make 24 appearances for their first-team as a youngster.

Everton then lured him to the Premier League in 2007 and he went on to have spells at Newcastle United, Blackpool, AFC Bournemouth and Watford before leaving the latter 12 months ago.

What now?

Gosling is looking to get into coaching and his days of playing in the Football League are behind him now which means Notts County will be become the last professional team he played for.

His move to Westfield means he can continue his football at a more relaxed level.

The Magpies are in the hunt for some new signings this summer as they prepare for Maynard’s first full campaign at the helm. They are hoping to keep hold of key striker Macaulay Langstaff.
