Rangers are leading the chase to sign Swansea City and Coventry City target Connor Barron from Aberdeen, according to a report by The Scottish Sun.

The Scottish Premiership giants are keen to snap up the midfielder this summer as they look to pip Celtic to top spot next season. Philippe Clement’s men finished 2nd behind their Glasgow rivals in this past campaign.

Barron, 21, is out of contact at Aberdeen at the end of the month and he is due to become available as things stand. According to the Daily Record, Swansea City and Coventry City are both interested in luring him down to England, whilst Italian clubs such as Bologna, Cagliari and Sassuolo have also been mentioned as potential suitors.

However, in this latest update regarding his situation by The Scottish Sun, Rangers are now hoping to win the race for his signature and the player could cut short a holiday in Portugal to fly back and hold talks with the Ibrox club.

Swansea City are eyeing new faces as they prepare for Luke Williams’ first full campaign at the helm. He left Notts County to take over the Welsh outfit from Michael Duff.

As for Coventry City, their aim will be on getting into the play-offs next term after missing out in this past season.

Like the Swans, the Sky Blues may have identified Barron as a possible long-term option for them in the middle of the park.

However, the Championship pair may well have to start looking for alternative targets with Rangers appearing to be at the front of the queue.

Who is Connor Barron?

Barron has been on the books at Aberdeen for his whole career to date and rose up through their academy ranks.

He was a regular for the Scottish Premiership outfit at various different youth levels before he was handed his first-team debut back in January 2022 in a Scottish Cup clash against Edinburgh City.

The Kintore-born man then had loan spells away at Brechin City and Kelty Hearts in the lower leagues to get some experience under his belt.

Barron then returned to his parent club and hasn’t looked back since. He has become one of their most prized assets and has made 73 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with two goals and four assists.
