QPR joined by new club in pursuit of 10-goal attacker target

QPR face competition from Bundesliga.2 side Nürnberg in pursuit of Beerschot attacker Thibaud Verlinden, according to Nieuwsblad.

QPR have been linked with a swoop for the winger as they look to bolster their ranks this summer. They managed to stay up in the Championship last season under Spanish boss Marti Cifuentes and are in the hunt for some new signings to bolster their ranks.

Verlinden, 24, is wanted by the Hoops in the upcoming transfer window, according to a report by GVA, along with Schalke and Royle Union Saint-Gilloise. He scored 10 goals and picked up five assists in this past campaign and is a key player for his current club.

In this latest update regarding his future, Nieuwsblad claim Nürnberg have joined the pursuit for his signature. Meanwhile, the player has been offered a new and improved contract as Beerschot look to keep hold of him amid interest from elsewhere.

QPR face competition

QPR could see Verlinden as someone to add more competition and depth to their attacking department.

He is under contract at Beerschot until 2025 meaning they are under no pressure to cash in on him just yet and can hold out for the right offer in the next transfer window.

The ex-Belgium youth international joined them back in 2022 and has since become one of their most prized assets.

Verlinden started out in the academies at Club Brugge and Standard Liege before moving over to England as a youngster to join Stoke City.

The forward went on to play 13 matches for the Potters and had loan spells away at FC. St Pauli and Bolton Wanderers to get some experience under his belt before heading out the exit door at the Bet365 Stadium on a permanent basis.

He has since had stints at Fortuna Sittard in Holland and FC DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda in Slovakia before joining Beerschot and he hasn’t looked back.

What next?

Verlinden appears to be a man in-demand and QPR remain the only mentioned potential suitor who could offer him a pathway back into English football.

Germany seems a possible avenue to go down again with Nurnberg rivalling Schalke for his signature. He has tasted life there with his loan at FC. St Pauli as a youngster.

His next move ultimately lies in his own hands and he has a decision to make. It isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that he stays put following Beershot’s offer of an extension.
