3 Cedric Kipre replacements West Brom must eye amid European transfer talks

West Brom will have been holding onto hopes of keeping Cedric Kipre, but it seems those chances are waning.

West Brom saw Cedric Kipre become a vital player over the 2023/24 campaign, but such a strong showing from the Ivorian with his deal winding down as piqued interests elsewhere.

Reports in Turkey have recently stated that talks have begun with Trabzonspor, indicating that Kipre will more than likely head elsewhere when his contract runs out at the end of this month.

Losing the 27-year-old will be a blow, but it looks as though its something the Baggies will have to come to terms with.

Replacements should already be on the radar at The Hawthorns, and here, we put forward three centre-backs that West Brom should have in mind…

Ronnie Edwards – Peterborough United

Edwards is an elite prospect at the heart of defence but if Premier League clubs are caught napping, a top Championship club like West Brom could capitalise to bring him a player ready for the step up.

He looks poised to move on from London Road this summer and will not be heading out on the cheap, so perhaps the 21-year-old is one to consider only after some player sales.

However, Edwards is ready to star in the Championship and could make the Baggies a healthy profit in the future.

Michal Helik – Huddersfield Town

Helik was a standout performer for Huddersfield Town as they were relegated and it would be a real surprise to see him drop to League One with the Terriers after their poor season.

At 28, he’s a more senior option with a lower ceiling but Helik would be ready to make the step back to the Championship with ease. He’s a towering figure at the back and could emerge as a real leader for Carlos Corberan.

He’s shown he can chip in going forward too, managing nine goals in Huddersfield’s relegation.

Who is this?

David Affengruber – Sturm Graz

Last but not least is a more left-field option, but it could be the best deal of the lot.

Austrian defender Affengruber sees his contract with Sturm Graz expire later this month and having tested himself in the Austrian Bundesliga and European football, he could be primed and ready to find success in the Championship with a club like West Brom.

He’s a great age at 23 and his ability to also play in defensive midfield is an indication of his on-the-ball abilities. On a possible free transfer, Affengruber could be a very shrewd signing.
