Peterborough United sign striker after Luton Town and Gillingham trials

Peterborough United have signed former Welling United attacker David Kamara following his Luton Town and Gillingham trials, as announced by their official club website.

Peterborough United have snapped up the youngster on a two-year contract as they prepare for another year in League One. They lost to eventual winners Oxford United in the play-offs at the semi-final stage in this past season.

Kamara, 18, had a trial at Luton Town in the last campaign whilst they were still in the Premier League, as reported by The Sun. League Two side Gillingham then had a look at him in February according to KentOnline.

He has now joined the Posh and has told their website: “The minute I walked in the door, I felt comfortable, the rest of the players made me feel welcome and the coaches have been great with me. I think it can be a bit of a cliché, but the hard work starts now for me, the coaches at Welling said that and it is true, making your debut or scoring your first goal is obviously a great moment, but it is what comes next.”

Who is this?

New face at Peterborough United

Peterborough United will see Kamara as one for the future and someone who could potentially break into their first-team down the line.

He will initially link up with their Under-21’s side and will be eager to show what he is all about.

The teenager has risen up through Welling United’s youth ranks and broke into their senior team last term.

Kamara made 12 appearances in the National League South and found the net on two occasions. They ended finishing in 17th in the table out of 24.

However, he has now left for a new chapter in his career in the Football League and losing him will be a blow to his former team.

What next?

Peterborough United will be looking to gain promotion to the Championship after back-to-back losses in the play-offs now.

Darren Ferguson remains in charge at London Road and will hope his players bounce back from their defeat to Oxford United.

The Posh are no strangers to signing talent from non-league and giving them the chance to show what they can do.

Kamara could be the next star in the making and the fact the likes of Luton Town and Gillingham have considered him over recent times suggest he is highly-rated in the game.
