Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell was subject to interest from Hannover 96, but the German club have moved onto other targets, as per BILD (via Sport Witness).

Leeds United are hoping to win back promotion to the Premier League this season.

Daniel Farke’s side finished 3rd last time out, but will be hopeful of securing an automatic promotion spot inside the top two this time around.

However, it looks set to be a busy summer at Elland Road with plenty of incomings and outgoings appearing likely.

One man heading for the exit is Cresswell. The 21-year-old made just seven appearances for the Whites last season.

Alan Nixon reported clubs in France and Germany were circling, one of which Hannover 96 in Germany’s second tier. However, a fresh update from Germany claims the Bundesliga 2 club have dropped out of the race to sign the Englishman, instead focussing on their pursuit of Peterborough United man Josh Knight.

Who is this?

Talent up for grabs

The 21-year-old is a very good player. Cresswell spent a year on loan at Millwall so he has proven himself in the Championship and it’s no surprise he has already drummed up interest from several different clubs across multiple countries.

It remains to be seen where he would prefer his future to lie, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see some English clubs start eyeing up a move for the defender this summer.

Leaving is definitely the best move for both parties. Leeds United have a strong squad and Cresswell just isn’t getting a look in. He will benefit a lot from leaving and moving to a club where consistent first team football is all but guaranteed.

Making the right move

Game time should be at the forefront of Cresswell’s mind when making a decision this summer.

The former England youth international cannot afford to warm a bench and waste the quality he has to offer.

It seems Hannover’s reason for moving on was their preference to signing Knight on a free transfer and with Cresswell still under contract at Elland Road until 2027, his services would demand a small fee.

There is still plenty of time left in the summer window and it’s important the youngster doesn’t rush into the wrong move. With the window set to officially open later this week, it will be expected that several clubs who have been quiet so far will start to consider moves for their targets.
